Q&A

You’re thinking about a trip with Steep Adventures, but have a few questions. We will attempt to answer some of your questions below. Send us an email and we promise to answer your questions three (like “What is your quest?”).

What does the adventure grade mean?

Each trip is graded from 1 to 5 on the challenge of the adventure. One being the easiest of adventures, generally touring and walking or cycling short distances at lower altitudes. Five is the highest grade and includes long hiking or cycling distances and high altitude adventures. Each description should give you more details on the activity involved, distances, and elevation (if a factor).

When should I register for the adventure?

Registration typically closes 90 - 120 days before the scheduled trip departure. However, if we meet the maximum capacity, the trip registration will close early. Because most of our adventures are connected with a charitable cause and involve raising funds to support a specific project, we encourage participants to sign up early to give time to spread the word and raise support.

How does the adventure fundraising work?

A trip that is connected to a fundraising project with a charitable organization will have a fundraising goal for each participant to meet. We will give you fundraising ideas and tips from previous participants. You will receive a fundraising portal from the charity to collect all fundraising support, Steep Adventures does not collect any funds for the project (only trip costs). The charity will give you information about their work and the project you are raising support for by doing this awesome adventure trip. The more people you involve in the fundraising effort the more benefit the charity receives from your efforts, as the word of their work reaches more people.

When should I book airfare?

Before booking your trip airfare you need to make sure the trip has reached the minimum number of participants. Group airfare is only possible when 10 or more people are traveling on the same itinerary, so if this is a possibility, we will let you know. If you purchase your airfare and have it covered by travel insurance, it is up to you to make sure the trip cancellation policy will cover refunds if the trip is canceled for not getting the minimum participation.

With COVID-19, what is the plan if travel to a particular destination is not possible?

We are continuing to monitor travel and the possibility to travel to our chosen destinations. If travel becomes impossible due to changes in policy for quarantines or travel restrictions, we will look for alternative travel dates or speak with you about alternative options. If you purchase travel insurance, please check to make sure that COVID-19 cancellations are covered.

What gear do I need for an adventure?

As part of the trip preparation, we will send you information on gear that is suggested for the trip. Some specific gear like hiking poles, sleeping bags, or bicycles can be rented for use during the adventure. The rental information will be sent to you, the price may be determined by the number of people on the trip that are also renting. Send us an email if you have any specific questions about gear, we love to talk about gear!
